A Second Web Site for Newsome’s Studio

If one website is a good thing, two must be better, correct? Well, we’ll soon find out!

I’ve owned the domain name www.newsomesstudio.com for over 20 years now. The only trouble with it, is that my email address (kevin@newsomesstudio.com) is often misspelled when someone new is sending me an email. They often leave out an “s,” and I never received the email. Sometimes it bounces back to them, sometimes it doesn’t. Either way, the mistake happens often enough for me to finally break down and do something.

So I bought http://www.newsomestudio.com

By buying www.newsomestudio.com (with only one “s” in the middle), I could now create an email account to match (kevin@newsomestudio.com) and redirect any emails that are sent there to my original email account.

So Why Not a Whole New Web Site?

Great question. Why not? So I took Kira Derryberry‘s WordPress for Photographers, four day class at the FPP sponsored Florida Photography Workshops in Daytona this past June, and in no time at all I had a completely different website. Some images are the same, some are new, but it allows me one more opportunity to occupy another position on page one of any number of Google searches. And that’s the best part; the SEO techniques I learned, along with the new tools available to me as my own WordPress site designer, have given me a whole new perspective on what and how to reach my target audience via the Internet.

Armed with two websites, five blogs, and five domain names, I’m positioning Newsome’s Studio to be found more often, and without the added expense/frustration of paying for and working with an outside Google adword salesman.

Results are already promising, but I know the payoff doesn’t happen overnight. All I can do is try, and without trying, nothing ever gets done. I see Google as a charter fishing boat. They only allow ten lines in the water at a time (page one). Why step on board with only one fishing pole? I’m not here to fish, I’m here to catch.

Hop on over and browse around. If you like what you see, land a comment on my blog. If you don’t, just go away – you’ll scare the fish.

There’s something to be said about a well planned, thought out, studio portrait. A long time client emailed me a beautiful wall portrait of her older daughter taken at age five by another photographer. Her second daughter wasn’t quite five yet, but was about to lose a front tooth, so there was a touch of urgency in getting her five year portrait taken – especially if she showed off her beautiful smile.

The goal wasn’t so much to match every detail of her older sister’s portrait, but replicate the traditional look, size, and feel of a quality, 20×24 canvas portrait her mother already owned of daughter number one.

As always, in cases like this, my starting point is to duplicate the lighting, pose, and expression, but to reverse the pose so when hung side by side, they will face one another instead of both going in the same direction (they’re wearing the same dress). After I’m satisfied, I work outwards from there to put my own spin on it, giving the second child’s image its own personality.

In this case, I opted for a more pensive expression, without teeth. A chair was switched for a park bench, and hand placement was rearranged. Mom loved it, and who wouldn’t? It’s clean, well lit, traditional, and will be a perfect “sister” image to hang side by side with her older sibling.

Mission Accomplished!

UK British Passport Photo

UK British Passport Photo

The second most requested country for passport photos in Tampa, is UK or British Passport. You’d be surprised how many of Tampa’s residents are from England!

British Passport Photos are measured in millimeters (35x45mm) with specific requirements on the head size and background color. The drug store can’t do it. Neither can AAA or the Post Office, but fortunately for those in the Central Florida area, Newsome’s Studio of Photography can!

Located in Main Street Plaza in Carrollwood, at 11738 N. Dale Mabry, Newsome’s can accommodate your foreign passport photo needs and less than ten minutes, and you’ll leave with your finished images, guaranteed to pass muster with even the most picky of foreign government bureaucratic passport clerks!

If I picked the perfect age to photograph children, it would be ages 3-5. It’s after they’ve outgrown the “trying twos,” and before they’ve lost their teeth. It’s before they’ve become “cosmetically aware” and are completely comfortable in front of a camera. They haven’t yet been taught “how to smile” so when it happens, it’s very natural. I know, I know, I’ve just told you the EASIEST age to photograph. That’s okay, I don’t mind “easy” once in a while. Well here in Tampa, you have plenty of choices in finding a photographer to create beautiful images of your child, we know that. And we’re always very happy when someone chooses Newsome’s Studio to document a special occasion or to create “that one, perfect image” of their child. Today, we had the pleasure of seeing Emma for the third time, nearing her third birthday. Love to photograph children. Love B&W. And Love Emma!

Third child I’ve done senior pictures for in this family. Couldn’t take a bad photo of her, even her BLINKS were post-worthy, but I narrowed it down to two of my favorites. Plant High School has always brought me some of the best subjects and this one was of my favorites. Enjoy!

The Tampa area (Tarpon Springs/New Port Richey in particular) has a very large Greek population. Many of them are still citizens of Greece and occasionally have the need to update their Greek Passports. The photo for a Greek Passport is not the standard 2×2 inch that is provided by most drug stores, it is larger and rectangular (40x60mm), the same size as the Egyptian Passport Photos.

Newsome’s Studio of Photography in North Tampa, located at 11738 N. Dale Mabry Hwy in Main Street Plaza (Carrollwood) has been providing Greek Passport Photos for nearly three decades. Call 813-968-2810 for an appointment and you’ll be in and out in less than ten minutes with your finished Greek passport photos!

Local crooner, Ralph Alocco of JAMS Entertainment, decided it was time to update his bio photo and publicity shot. We did a series of images to be used in advertising his services as both an entertainer/singer, and his karaoke business. This image was one of our favorites. Classic, Hollywood lighting and posing was used, as his specialty is Sinatra/Martin style singing.
