I’ve said it before… it’s always great to get out of the studio and accept the challenge of covering a fluid event in an uncontrolled environment. Corporate convention photography coverage is both challenging and rewarding for me. Last week, I was sent to Miami Beach to document a three day convention for Interior Design Magazine. I’ve worked with them many times before in some of the most beautiful locations and I love their staff (they treat me very, very well).

My goal with their events is to create commercially useful images that document the event, the attendees, their surroundings, and the details. I use a lot of natural light, but know when and where to add off-camera-flash to create light patterns that mimic natural light, and a shallow depth of field when appropriate. The result is a body of work they can use in the promotion of their next event, in both social media, as well as their magazine.

Was hired to cover a three day event in South Beach (Miami) last week. The last evening, my client  threw a party for the attendees on the rooftop of one of the hotels in the Art Deco District. I captured a few images of the setup before anyone arrived, this was taken just after sunset.

Whether corporate, or private, event photography is one of my favorite things to photograph. It’s very documentary, mostly available light, almost “voyeuristic” in the approach to capturing people interacting with each other versus with the camera.

If you’re an event planner for your company, or one who specializes in private affairs, contact me directly to discuss how Newsome’s Studio can highlight YOUR events.
